Exploring the Architecture of Taman Sari

For those who don’t know what Taman Sari is, let me explain about it a little bit (with the help of Wikipedia :D). Taman Sari also known as Taman Sari Water Castle is a site of a former royal garden of the Sultanate of Yogyakarta that was built in mid of 18th century. It had multiple functions, such as a resting area, a workshop, a medication area, a defense area, and a hiding place.

The last function (hiding place) is actually a mosque that is located underground, which is displayed in this photo. It’s intriguing to surround the underground mosque due to its tortuous and dark alleys. It is also a very good place to take photos, especially for the visitors.

Here are some photos I took during my visit on last August.
